Many of you know that I have been working for months on a ward garden which was planted to be harvested for our Ward Christmas Party. Well, last Saturday we had the big day and it was a hit. We had approx 270 ears of corn which were roasted as well as cucumbers and zuchinni squash from the garden which were fried. We pulled a ton of pumpkins which were used to make our pies and they were delicious.

Here is our pig, whom I named Bacon. He was so big one person estimated him to be approx 375 lbs. I wasn't present when they quickly stabbed him in the heart but just after I remained at the slaughter location for a lesson in pig butchery. It was a little hard to watch but interesting.

I decided to leave off the really graphic pictures :(

THat is so awesome that your garden did so well!!! I hope you all learned a lot! That is one of my goals, is to learn to garden.
If I had to butcher my own animals, I am sure I would be a vegitarian...yuck! You are brave for watching that!
I still can't believe you did that with the pig. I don't think I could handle it!
I was so happy to see you and bummed i couldn't speak with you and catch up. I was hoping you would find me in line and talk to me while i waited for santa but i never saw you. oh well, hopefully soon i'll get to visit with you. sure do miss you.
I can't beleive you actually stayed and watched it. I knew you said you were going to, but I didn't think that you would stick through the whole thing. I am impressed! It is one thing to do it as a job, survival, or your way of life... but to raise him like a pet, and then watch it all... wow that takes a strong stomach!
And from everything I've heard, everyone one had a great time and said that the food was great and amazing! Great work from you and your ward!
